Kechea Brown

Kechea Brown began her civil service career in April 2007 as a Police Administrative Aide at the New York City Police Department (NYPD). She was promoted to Senior Police Administrative Aide in 2013 and Principal I in 2019. She was upgraded to Principal III in 2025 and was the Bronx Payroll Supervisor of all 12 precincts and Executive Assistant to the Borough Personnel Administrative Manager.

During her 19 years with the Police Department, Kechea discovered her enthusiasm for city government and labor relations. She familiarized herself with city labor agreements and became proficient in Department policies and procedures, utilizing that knowledge to teach civilian employees their rights and responsibilities. She was elected as a Shop Steward in 2024 and ensured uniformed personnel understood that CWA Local 1180 members were protected and not disrespected. 

Kechea masterfully merged work with her passion for community by spearheading highly successful diaper and cold-weather clothing distributions and bringing precinct commanding officers and their constituents together at various community service events. 

Kechea is the 2023 recipient of the DCAS Isaac Lieberman Public Service Award and holds various accolades from the Police Department and community-based organizations. When she is not working, she volunteers with older adults and local food pantries.

Kechea obtained her bachelor’s degree from The College of New Rochelle and her master's degree in urban studies from the CUNY School for Labor and Urban Studies (SLU).
